Out breeding program focuses on producing well- balanced dogs with sound tempermants, strong working instincts, and adherence to the breed standard.

We take great pride in our responsible breeding practices, which prioritize the health, structure, and genetic integrity of our dogs. All of our breeding stock are health-tested, temperament-evaluated, and carefully selected to ensure they excel both as working partners and cherished family companions.

Breed History

The Australian Cattle Dog has a rich and rugged heritage rooted in the vast outback of Australia. Developed in the early 1800s, this breed was specifically created to meet the demands of Australian cattlemen who needed a tough, intelligent, and tireless dog to herd cattle over long distances and rough terrain.

To achieve this, early breeders crossed drover dogs with native Dingoes, later incorporating breeds like the Scottish Highland Collie and Dalmation to refine both working ability and temperament. The result was a resilient, highly trainable, and fiercely loyal dog with unmatched stamina and an instinctive drive to herd.

Recognized officially as a distinct breed in the early 20th century, the Australian Cattle Dog — also known as the Blue Heeler and Queensland Heeler — has become a symbol of Australian grit and determination. Today, they continue to excel not only as working dogs on farms and ranches but also in dog sports and as beloved companions.

Proud to be an AKC Bred with Heart Breeder!

At Wildcard Cattle Dogs, we’re proud to be recognized by the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. Program—a commitment that aligns with the very core of our breeding philosophy. This distinction isn’t just a badge. It represents Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility, and Tradition—standards that we uphold in every pairing, every pup, and every decision we make as breeders. We don’t breed just to fill homes. We breed with purpose—to preserve the grit, instinct, and structure of the Australian Cattle Dog while ensuring every dog is set up for long-term health and success.

Being Bred with H.E.A.R.T. means:

• Health: Every breeding dog in our program is health tested above and beyond AKC recommendations—hips, elbows, patella’s, cardiac, eyes, and full genetic panels. No shortcuts. No exceptions.

• Education: We stay current on best practices through ongoing learning and mentorship. As the breed evolves, so do we.

• Accountability: We are honest about our program—our dogs’ strengths, our goals, and our non-negotiables.

• Responsibility: We stand behind every puppy we place. That means lifetime breeder support, clear contracts, and guidance at every stage.

• Tradition: We believe in honoring the historical working heritage of the breed while preparing them for success in modern sport, ranch, and performance homes.

When you bring home a Wildcard pup, you’re not just getting a dog—you’re becoming part of a program that puts legacy, ethics, and ability first.
