Frozen Studs

Why we store frozen semen?

Preserving Elite Genetics

We work hard to produce and select dogs with exceptional ability, conformation, and sound minds. Freezing semen from our top males allows us to preserve those genetics for future generations— long after a dog is retired or gone. It’s our insurance policy for the bloodlines we’ve worked so hard to build.

Greater Breeding Flexibility

Timing is everything in breeding. With frozen semen, we can breed the right pair at the right time, regardless of location or season. This gives us precise control over our breeding decisions and helps optimize conception success.

At Wildcard Cattle Dogs, we’re committed to preserving and improving the working versatility, structure, and temperament of the Australian Cattle Dog. One of the tools we rely on to achieve this is the strategic use of frozen semen storage in our breeding program. Here’s why:

Expanding Access to Our Program

Frozen semen allows us to collaborate with breeders across the world, sharing our program with others who are passionate about quality cattle dogs. It strengthens the breed by diversifying the gene pool while maintaining top-tier standards.

Future-Proofing the Breed

As breeders, it’s our responsibility to look beyond the current generation. By storing semen from proven dogs, Wildcard Cattle Dogs ensures we can more smart decisions five, ten, or even twenty years from now— safeguarding the future of the Australian Cattle Dog!

Frozen semen isn’t just science— it’s stewardship. At Wildcard Cattle Dogs, it’s how we honor the past, serve the present, and protect the future of the breed we love. Each breeding decision is made with purpose, and storing frozen semen gives us the ability to make thoughtful, long-term choices that benefit the breed as a whole. It allows us to preserve the legacy of our most exceptional dogs, ensure continuity in our program, and contribute to the betterment of the Australian Cattle Dog worldwide. For us, it’s about making sure greatness is still possible for generations to come.

Swanson joined the Wildcard Cattle Dog program in July of 2021, traveling all the way from Oklahoma at the age of four. Now retired, Swanson remains an essential part of our legacy through limited frozen semen availability.

A beautiful built male with striking markings, Swanson exemplifies the qualities we value most in our program: environmental soundness, athleticism, sociability, and drive. His impressive pedigree includes respected working lines such as Shadybrooks Lakota Blue Badger and Spader Vaquero Faith, blending strong herding instinct, structure, and temperament. His lineage is rich in classic Australian Cattle Dog type, with both red and blue coloration and proven performance on both sides.

Swanson is known for his remarkable food drive and playful spirit-he loves playing disc and engaging with people. Yet when it’s time to work, he transitions effortlessly into a focused, reliable dog with the grit to get the job done safely and efficiently. A natural herder, he combines biddability with stamina, making him an asset in both practical and competitive settings.

Despite his working mindset, Swanson has a gentle, affectionate side. Whether it’s a rainy-day nap or quiet snuggles in the evening, he enjoys down time with his humans just as much as he enjoys being active. His well-rounded personality and strong genetics make him a true gem in our program.
